Who Gets Their Baby Adjusted?!

Have you ever gone to a Chiropractor?
Are you one of those people who swears by them like my uncle does?
Have you ever considered taking your baby to a chiropractor to get adjusted?!?!
Might that hurt them?!

All questions I had a few weeks back before I took my one year old son to get adjusted for the first time.I have never been to a chiropractor in my entire life. For me, when someone cracks their knuckles it gives me the hebejebes. The sound is like nails on a chalk board to me. So… the thought of ever taking MYSELF to a chiropractor was never something I considered. Never once did I look at the benefits of it or see what it could do for me. All I ever thought about was that I would have to hear that terrible popping sound that I dreaded so much!

However, thankfully I have this wonderful friend Kristin whose husband (Dr. Richard Gorgo) is a chiropractor and she began to tell me all the benefits of getting your children adjusted, even at the youngest of ages. All of her children were adjusted in their first week of life and have been adjusted ever since. They have never once had an ear infection. My one year old has had at least three in his first year of life alone so that is quite impressive to me. I hate when my baby is sick especially with an ear infection and if he could possibly not have them anymore? Then I’m up for trying that!

After talking to Kristin for a few weeks, doing a little research on my own and then her asking me to at least to give it a try, (I mean for goodness sakes it was FREE) I caved and took Ian to get adjusted last Monday after my birthday dinner. I’m pretty sure I was more nervous than Ian was, and sadly I think Ian could feel that. Ian wasn’t happy at all about it and didn’t at all like being touched, but again it WAS 9pm (way after his bed time) and I’m sure he was more exhausted than anything. Richard (Kristin’s husband) however, was absolutely wonderful with him! He was gentle with Ian, let us know everything he was doing when he was checking Ian out, and also educated us more on the benefits of doing this.  I guess it was an added bonus that we knew the doctor... but he made us feel very comfortable and we felt our little boy was in great hands.

And let me tell you?! This past week?!  Ian was so amazing, laid back and wonderfully pleasant!!!   He was having the worst time with sleeping before he got adjusted, all of which changed the very next day. Took naps amazingly and was so completely chipper and happy during the day. It was more than I could ask for! It was like he felt better all around!  You didn't have to ask me twice, I knew I was taking him back!

Yesterday we took him back and he went through it all over again.  A little better than the last time, but still not a fan of being touched.  My husband loves going with me because him and Rich get to talk.  Let me tell you, they are like two girls chatting away and you can't get them to shut up.  In fact they were talking away about all of Jesse's back issues and Rich kindly adjusted him on the spot.  Can't beat that service! :)

My thoughts in all of this?  In no way am I telling anyone what they should do.  If it works for us, we are sticking with it and I'm surely going to write about it.  But, I do think everyone should figure out what best works for them. If this is something you want to do, then do some research and do what YOU think is best for your family.   If it's something you don't want to do, then don't.

My feeling is, if I can keep my kids off antibiotics as much as possible, I’m going to do it! If I can make my kids feel better by getting this done, I’m going to do it! For us, we are still feeling this out, but we like what we see so far and we trust the doctor doing it. If it works out for us I'm sure we'll get any other kids we have in the future adjusted at a very young age.  But let's just see how this week goes, right?!

How do you feel about Chiropractors?
Would you get your child adjusted?!

I  would love to hear your thoughts on this!

I have never thought about it. Honestly, I didn't know children could be adjusted. But it sounds like you did your research and know and trust the person who did it. So, yes, I would definitely get my kiddos adjusted, and if I saw the benefits, I would keep on doing it. :)

I love the chiropractor! I go myself a couple times a month to get my hips and shoulder "put back." They are all out of whack from being pregnant so much in two years. (haha) I've taken Trace (my 10 month old) a couple times for his acid reflux. He loved it! I highly recommend chiropractic work to anyone questioning it. It's worked wonders for me!

My father in law is a activator chiropractor, before I married my husband I had never been to a chiropractor either! So I married into a whole new world! After Nathan was born he had colic so my FIL adjusted him and it made him so much better!

My mom came down with a sickness that no doctor could seem to diagnose or cure, so she went to a chiropractor as a last ditch effort for help. Praise the Lord for that chiropractor :) My mom is 100% better. So now, my little family of four - me, my husband, and two sons, ages 2 and 3 1/2, all go to the chiropractor. Love it!

I've heard that having a child adjusted after birth can be very beneficial. In fact, I heard that it actually solves a lot of acid reflux and spit up issues. If our next baby throws up like Bella...I'm highly considering it.

I am TOTALLY a fan of the chiropractor! I know a lot of people think it's a "scam" but have they tried it?? and my kid? I never thought of it but after reading this, I may definitely try it!

I've never heard of getting your child adjusted, nor do I know what it involves! It'd be interesting to look into it further. However, I feel a lot of adults could have their problems solved by going to a physical therapist. I feel that chiropractors offer temporary solutions while a physical therapist gives you therapy to improve you long term which means less pain, less doctor appointments, and less money being spend, and we all know doctors are expensive.

I'm glad you did your research and have such wonderful friends. I've never heard of this before and when I have kids I think this would be something interesting to look into. Thanks for sharing something new.

Oh girl! We go to the chiro twice a week all 6 of us!
I swear by it!
My last 2 kiddos have gotten adjusted since they were 2 weeks old. Its fabulous and keeps them healthy.
My 2nd daughter had chronic ear infections and the insurance decided they would reject her if she had any more, that's when we turned to chiropractic and haven't looked back since. And you know what she hasn't had 1 ear infection since either have my other kids. We love it, they love it! I am so thankful for my chiropractor ;) I hope this helps. However I agree with you, find what works for your family :)

I started going to the chiro last year and I love it. I would definitely take my kids. In fact Rayna's been having headaches, maybe I should take her in...

We go to the chiro 3x a week. I get the girls done about 1x a week, sometimes more when they are sick, not sleeping great, or have had a big fall or something. Breeley has been treated since she was about a month old. Alyse was 3 when she started. My chiro actual did a home birth with his wife for their 3rd child and ajusted a few hours after she was born. He that she came out at a kind of odd angle and wanted to make sure she was good because birth is pretty stressful on their little bodies.

Oh, my, I LOVE Chiropractic Care! My children were grown before I ever went to one or I would most definitely have taken them. I swore many years ago that I would never go to one, but I'm a big time believer now. I have been for neck, shoulder and back issues and the adjustments took care of all my issues. I go at least 2X a month for maintenance. Hope it continues to work for your little one and I highly recommend it for you and your Hubby.

I have always been a fan of chiropractic care. I did it through all of my running, infertility treatments and pregnancy. I had one of my twins get an adjustment around 5 or 6 months. I would like to go more, but I can't afford it any longer. I think it's amazing!
